1. MIR, a left-wing revolutionary movement.
2. During the time of the dictatorship, several military laws known as “bandos ” were proclaimed.
3. Skinny Alejandra was supposedly a member of the MIR. Like other prisoners who had succumbed to physical and psychological torture, she became a torturer. Before the coup, she was a student at the University of Concepción. There are testimonies about her case in particular from several human rights groups.
4. DINA was a secret service intelligence agency developed during the military dictatorship.
5. Londres 38 is one of the places where political prisoners were interrogated and tortured by the dictatorship.
6. The Pro-Paz Committee was formed to help people who needed assistance. It was made up of the major churches in Santiago.
7. The List of 119 Chileans included the names of 119 detained-disappeared people in Chile who supposedly appeared dead after an encounter with the military in Argentina and Brazil.
8. The Diego Portales Building served in these years as the headquarters for General Augusto Pinochet.
9. The CNI was the Central National Intelligence Agency during those years.
10. The Seventeen-Day Strike was a third hunger strike organized by the arpillerista group. It occurred in May 1978, and at the time the government of Pinochet promised, through the assistance of the Catholic church, to respond to the families of the detained-disappeared. The promise had yet to be fulfilled in December 1994.
